Ingrown hairs are something that each and everyone of us will have at some stage in our lives, some suffering much more than others. So the questions everyone wants to know the answers to is what is an ingrown hair and how can we prevent them?
Firstly, an ingrown hair is pretty much how it sounds, a hair that is growing into the skin. They are more common for people who have curly or coarse hairs.
Spotting an ingrown hair is fairly easy, the skin will have a raised, red bump (like a spot) and often you can see the hair trapped under the skin. You can either leave it to do its own thing or you can gently free it from under the skin.
So what can you do to prevent them?
Here at The Pink Shed we use the well known brand Lycon for our waxing treatments and we recommend for you to carry on using their products at home to keep skin fresh and free from the dreaded ingrowing hairs.
We recommend that you exfoliate regularly (1-2 x per week) when showering or having a bath and to do so in circular motions.Try using one of Lycons sugar body scrubs, they are fabulous for dislodging ingrowing hairs and preventing any more from burying themselves into your skin. There are plenty of scents to choose from! We stock lots in the salon and we have apple and cranberry, lavender and camomile, mango and guava, coconut and vanilla, pink grapefruit and finally pomegranate!
After waxing treatments we recommmend that you use Lycon’s Ingrown-X-IT solution. It is a break through formula for the face and body that is kind to skin and does not sting. It mildly exfoliates and decongests with salicylic acid, helping to minimise the appearance and discomfort of ingrown hairs. Arnica and Allantoin soothe angry red spots and promote the skin to heal faster. You can apply directly after waxing and you can use it twice daily to the affected area for as long as necessary.
Please feel free to ask one of our experienced therapists if you have anymore queries about ingrown hairs.
